Is PayTap similar to FASTag?

No. FASTag is a single-purpose RFID instrument designed to settle highway tolls on NHAI plazas. PayTap is broader vehicle spend infrastructure — the same tap that pays at a fuel pump can also work at parking, partner merchants and recharges, while the owner sees every transaction in real time and enforces per-vehicle limits. FASTag solves tolls; PayTap solves vehicle financial control.

How does PayTap work?

Three layers work together: (1) an NFC tag securely fixed to the vehicle, (2) a regulated prepaid wallet operated on RBI-authorised PPI rails through our banking partner, and (3) the PayTap owner app and business dashboard with limits, alerts and reports. The driver simply taps at a partner terminal — the system checks merchant category, vehicle limits and balance, debits the wallet, and pushes a real-time alert to the owner. No cash, no reimbursements, no ambiguity.

Why was PayTap created?

Indian vehicle owners and fleets still run on cash floats, paper bills and trust. The result: fuel pilferage, ghost expenses, no per-vehicle visibility, and reconciliation that takes weeks. PayTap was built to replace that with regulated, auditable, real-time payment infrastructure — so owners get back control without making drivers' lives harder.

What if someone taps my PayTap tag from outside the vehicle?

NFC Vehicle Tag is intentionally a near-field protocol — readers must be within roughly 4 cm of the tag to communicate. Beyond that, every transaction must originate from a verified, certified merchant terminal in the RuPay network. So it's all safe and monitored. Additionally, owners can set a limit per vehicle, switch the tag on/off when required, and place the tag inside the car dashboard. For PIN-less transactions from ₹0–5,000, it comes with a PayTap transaction security monitoring system, so payments cannot happen beyond the limit set by the owner.

Is my bank account linked to PayTap?

No. PayTap operates a regulated prepaid wallet (PPI) issued through our RBI-authorised banking partner. You top up the wallet from your bank, but the bank account itself is never exposed to merchants, drivers or the tag. The most you can ever lose from a single tag is the wallet balance assigned to it.

How does PayTap keep my payment information safe?

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256). Tag identifiers are tokenised — no card number, no bank details and no personally identifiable data are stored on the physical tag. Our infrastructure is PCI-DSS compliant, VAPT-audited on a recurring schedule, and operated under the security standards required by our RBI-authorised PPI partner.

What if someone still manages to tap my tag?

You'll know within seconds. Every transaction triggers a real-time push and SMS alert. From the dashboard you can freeze the tag in one tap, raise a dispute within 24 hours, and our risk team will investigate with full transaction trace logs. Confirmed fraudulent transactions are reversed in line with PPI partner policy.

What are the payment limits?

Owners set per-tap, per-day and per-vehicle limits inside the regulatory ceiling defined by the RBI PPI Master Directions: up to ₹10,000 wallet balance on Min KYC and up to ₹2,00,000 on Full KYC. You can configure tighter limits than the regulatory cap — most fleet customers do.

Yes. From the dashboard you can freeze any tag instantly, disable contactless on a specific vehicle, restrict it to a single merchant category, or set a zero limit. Controls take effect within seconds across the network.

Order online from our activation page. Tags ship across India in 3–5 business days via tracked courier. Once it arrives, install it in under a minute, complete KYC in the app, top up your wallet, and the tag is live.

Accepted Answer

Cars and SUVs: inside the windshield, top-centre behind the rear-view mirror. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers and commercial vehicles: on a clean, flat, non-metallic surface near the fuel filler or fairing as shown in the in-app installation guide. The tag is weather-resistant and designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle.

Do I need a mobile app to use PayTap?

Drivers don't need anything — they just tap. Owners use the PayTap app and business dashboard for top-ups, KYC, setting limits, freezing tags, viewing live transactions and downloading statements. Multi-user access is supported with role-based permissions for finance and operations teams.

For everyday vehicle spend — no. The owner pre-decides where, how much and how often each tag can spend. Cash becomes the rare exception (a remote pump or a non-network merchant) instead of the default, and even those can be tracked through driver-attributed expense entries in the app.

If a tap fails, no money is debited — the wallet is only debited on successful merchant confirmation. Retry once; if it persists, check wallet balance and tag status in the app, or raise a ticket.
